GREENBRIER INDOOR PRACTICE FIELD
Greenbrier, Arkansas
This Multipurpose Sports Facility is an addition to the High School campus of the Greenbrier School District in Arkansas. Designed to provide an indoor training space for high school sports such as football, soccer, baseball, softball, and cheerleading.
The building is situated at the Greenbrier High School campus entrance to highlight the school district’s training facility, pride in the home team, and a sense of “awe” in the visiting fans and athletes.
The design team used the inspiration of the school district's panther mascot using its claws to rip back the corner of the building’s metal panel façade revealing the weight training room and practice field beyond. The clawed reveals continue around the perimeter of the building in the form of translucent wall panels, both providing daylighting during regular use and making the building a beacon at dusk.
The building plan is broken up into two sections: a 50-yard indoor practice field and a service section to the West with a Mezzanine on top of the service rooms. The service section is composed of a weight training room that is eye captive from the exterior, a training room for the athlete’s recovery, a film room where the teams study their game strategies, a laundry room, coaches offices, and locker rooms with showers for both players and coaches. The mezzanine presents itself as another space for training. The space contains retractable batting cages and tumble mats for wrestling and cheerleading.
