CUTTER MORNING STAR HIGH SCHOOL
Hot Springs, Arkansas
Completed August 2020
82,358 square feet
Cutter Morning Star School District successfully passed a millage campaign with the help of JBP Architects to replace a 60-year-old high school building. Cutter Morning Star High School provides students with new space to grow: 24 classrooms, 2 science labs, a media center, band rooms, a commercial kitchen, dining, FEMA shelter, and a tournament-ready 2A basketball arena. Multiple level changes were designed to accommodate site conditions, creating a unique experience for students and visitors. The social heart of the building is found in the new dining area, which overlooks the basketball arena and provides views into the media center. This arrangement provides communal space for students who are often found outside the classroom for independent learning. For the larger Cutter Morning Star community, the arena and dining areas create a new social hub for school events. Academic life is given modern updates in the two-story education wing, which provides new technologically supported classrooms, a large working consumer science kitchen, a unique education center, and several large career-ed classrooms. Communal seating in the corridors offers additional space for independent learning.
